CRAYONS IMPROV CAMP

ACTING THROUGH IMPROV FOR TWEENS Ages 9-12

Students will learn the basics of performance and acting through the art of improv. Students will do fun improv activities and learn about Character building, team work, and acting fundamentals. No improv experience is necessary to have fun doing this camp!

ART OF MUSIC CAMP

Terrific Tall Tales and Folklore Fun!

How about a little more FUN before the Summer’s over?
Children will experience the musical legends of famous tall tales and folklore through art and music at “MSPA’s 2013 Art of Music Summer Camp!” Midtown School of Performing Arts Summer Camp is specifically designed for Kindergarten-post 3rd Grade. Your child will have so much fun creating and expressing their own artistic talents while learning about the similarities and differences between the two childhood-favorite genres of tall tales and folklore. No experience necessary! Each child will make one individual art project daily and paint their very own canvas throughout the week. Daily music lessons, including small percussion instruments, will also get our creativity flowing! All materials and a daily snack are included. Your child will also receive a tote bag, designed by your own artist, design and create their own journal, and receive an MSPA t-shirt!

AUG 5-8  There will be a family “Gallery Viewing” at 11:30 am on the last day!

WILLY WONKA     Grades 3-8

Your student will perform a condensed musical adapted from the classic film,Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, including his/her favorite songs, wacky characters and dance moves. From auditions to curtain time, your student will learn to sing, act and dance through this intense 5-day experience. Be prepared to help him/her learn lines and lyrics at home because this MSPA camp goes all out. On Friday, invite friends and family members to see your student perform at 11:30 in Marquette’s Vision Gym.

ANNIE MUSIC THEATRE CAMP     Grades K-3

Your student will perform a condensed musical adapted from the classic broadway show: Annie. This camp will help students gain confidence singing, speaking and acting in front of an audience. Your student will learn beginning performance techniques while contributing to a show s/he will be proud of. Don’t forget to help your youngsters learn their lines at home and invite friends and family members to see this heart-warming production on the last day of camp. On Friday, invite friends and family members to see your student perform at 11:30 in Marquette’s Vision Gym.

BACKSTAGE CAMPS!     Grades 4-8

If your camper likes the theatre, but would prefer to remain behind the scenes, this is the camp for them!  Set design, costume design, stage management, choreography and directing are all included in this week-long camp.  All backstage campers will actively participate in the Music Theatre camp going on at the same time.  All sets and costumes created by campers will be used in the final Music Theatre Show on the last day of each camp.

ART OF MUSIC Grades 1-3

A fun-filled music and art camp for 1st through 3rd graders. Children will explore music by using different art mediums. This camp includes an incredible, high-energy music class with all sorts of props: balls, scarves, parachutes, percussion instruments and much more. The kids will be introduced to sections of the orchestra and then use that new knowledge to create ART in the art portion of the camp. The kids will enjoy learning about music and the orchestra while creating great works of art. At the end of camp, we will have a “Gallery” showing of all the works of art that have been created including a canvas you will be able to take home, frame and hang up in your own family gallery! Parents will be invited Friday at 11:30am to enjoy our gallery showing.

THE HOBBIT Grades 4-6

Your camper will rehearse and perform a stage adaptation of the legendary novel by J.R.R. Tolkien. Complete with your favorite Middle Earth characters and songs based on Tolkien’s lyrics, this musical will challenge your maturing artist vocally and theatrically. From auditions to curtain time, your student will learn voice, acting and character movement through this intense 5-day experience. Be prepared to help him/her learn lines and lyrics at home because this MSPA camp goes all out. On Friday, invite friends and family members to see your student perform at 11:30 in the Barbara and Dave Sylvan Auditorium.

JUNE 3-7

THE HOBBIT – BACKSTAGE Grades 4-6

If you like the theater but would prefer to remain behind the scenes, this camp is for you! MSPA’s Back Stage Camp focuses on older campers who have a love for the theater and how it works. Set design, props design, stage management, and directing are all included in this week-long camp. All Back Stage campers will actively participate in the Music Theater Camp going on at the same time. All sets and props created by our Back Stage campers will be used for the final Music Theater performance on Friday. They will also assist in back stage management during the show on Friday at 11:30am to enjoy our gallery showing.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION Grades 1-3

Whether your camper is ready for his or her close-up or prefers the action behind the camera or on the set, this inventive camp is picture perfect! Campers will conceptualize, plan, perform and film their own music video. Then we’ll roll out the red carpet for their debut performance on the big screen. Invite friends and family members to see their premiere screening on Friday at 11:30 in the Barbara and Dave Sylvan Auditorium. Lights, Camera, Action will be facilitated by Midtown School of Performing Arts.

GLEE Grades 1-3

Does your student ever sing into his/her pencil as if it was a microphone? If so, GLEE is the perfect camp for him/her! MSPA’s Glee camp gives your camper the chance to sing like a star and perform in the spotlight. Campers learn vocal techniques for pop music and apply them to a collection of chart-topping hits. Then s/he will work-up a sweat learning trendy choreography to show off at the performance. Like a real show-choir, campers perform crowd pleasing solos, duets and ensembles numbers. Their high-energy showcase of singing/dancing talent will be performed on Friday at 11:30am in the Barbara and Dave Sylvan Auditorium. Experience and a chance to perform at the conclusion of camp. Come sing and dance with us at GLEE Camp! Parents will be invited Friday at 11:30am join us for a performance in the Barbara and Dave Sylvan Auditorium.

DANCING THRU THE DECADES Girls Grades 4-6 (Ages 9-13)

Your camper will travel through time learning popular dance styles from the past and today. From the Charleston to Lindy Hop, from the Twist to Disco, from Funk to Hip-hop, she will learn the dance styles that have shaped our culture through the ages. Send her with a water bottle and sneakers, because this MSPA camp is a work out and an educational experience all at once. On Friday, invite friends and family members to see your student perform at 11:30 in the Barbara and Dave Sylvan Auditorium.

BATH TIME Grades 1-3

Your camper will rehearse and perform an original musical created for his/her able imagination. This swashbuckling performance features a Captain of Candies, a Talking Parrot, a puppet show, a sword fighting scene, an underwater ensemble dance and noteworthy tunes: On The Good Ship Lollipop, Singing In the Bathtub, and Splish, Splash. From auditions to curtain time, your student will learn to sing, act and dance through this intense 5-day experience. Be prepared to help him/her learn lines and lyrics at home because this MSPA camp goes all out. On Friday, invite friends and family members to see your student perform at 11:30 in the Barbara and Dave Sylvan Auditorium.
